Poland Issues Maximum Travel Alert for Cuba

(MENAFN) Poland has escalated its Cuba travel advisory to the highest possible level, calling on all its nationals to refrain from visiting the island nation, Polish media reported Saturday.

The Polish Foreign Ministry, in a statement posted to its official website, attributed the decision to Cuba's worsening energy crisis — one severe enough to cripple the country's capacity to respond to emergency situations. Officials further pointed to deteriorating air connectivity with Europe and a mounting threat of civil unrest as additional drivers behind the upgraded warning.

The latest escalation builds on an earlier advisory shift. In mid-February, Warsaw had already elevated its Cuba warning to Level 3 — discouraging non-essential travel — according to media. Approximately 200 Polish nationals are currently estimated to be on the island.

The advisory upgrade coincides with sharpening U.S. rhetoric toward Havana. President Donald Trump on Friday issued a stark warning, declaring that "Cuba is next" — a statement that followed U.S. military action against both Venezuela and Iran. On Jan. 3, U.S. forces raided Venezuela and forcibly detained President Nicolás Maduro, while Feb. 28 saw Washington launch large-scale coordinated strikes alongside Israel against Iran.

Cuba's cascading crises are widely linked to the compounding weight of decades-long U.S. sanctions, which analysts say have systematically hollowed out the island's economy and gutted its energy infrastructure.
