Poland Eyes Permanent US Military Presence with Thousands of Troops
Wziatek explained that the proposed deployment could consist of between 4,000 and 5,000 US service members stationed permanently in Poland, while another 10,000 to 11,000 personnel could be assigned through rotational deployments.
“Fifteen thousand American soldiers in Poland means strength, defensive capabilities for our country, and allied cooperation," he said.
The deputy defense minister said he remained “very cautious” about disclosing additional information, stressing that “it’s not only Poles who are listening to us.”
According to reports, the proposed military presence could be expanded gradually, with the overall deployment potentially reaching its maximum level before 2039.
The remarks came after US President Donald Trump said last week that “major progress” was being made toward creating a new US Army base in Poland. Trump described the possible establishment of the facility as a “historic step” in relations between the two countries, although he did not clarify whether the site would permanently accommodate American troops.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is due to hold talks with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in Washington on Wednesday. Discussions are expected to address Poland’s security and plans for a permanent American military presence.
Kosiniak-Kamysz said last week that a decision regarding the proposed base is expected “in the coming weeks.”
